Hammerhead Rifle Tool
April 7th, 2010 | Photo Recon Product Announcement Product Preview Review | Posted by Stickman
Hammerhead Rifle Tool has a new armorer tool that covers a few different bases, and is available in both heat treated steel and titanium.
The HammerHead Rifle Tool is designed for removal and installation of the castle nut, A1 and A2 receiver extensions (buffer tube), as well as most flash suppressor and compensators. The tool also has a cutout for a 3/8″ socket for proper torque if so desired. The end of the HammerHead Rifle Tool is pointed for pushing free tight or stuck receiver take down pins. Its a well built tool with usable features.
I’ve been playing around with the Hammerhead Rifle Tool for awhile now, and its a well thought out piece of equipment. The four points of contact for removing and installing castle nuts is a blessing. For anyone who has had to free a heavily staked nut, you know that light weight tools don’t cut it. This design encapsulates the castle nut, and gives maximum bite without mangling the edges. If for no other reason than this, I think this tool is worth buying for anyone who works on M4 or AR15s on a regular basis.
The cutout for the flash suppressor is a nice idea, and it works as designed. Its easy enough to get a solid grip on the tool, and removal of even old stubborn A2 muzzle devices that have spent years of use and abuse with BFAs shouldn’t be a problem.
The rifle receiver extension (buffer tube) cutout worked well for me, though most of the weapons I work on are carbines. I pulled out one of my older “extra” tubes and checked to ensure the Hammerhead Rifle Tool fit, and it did. More importantly than the proper fit was the look at the receiver extension that I pulled out of storage. It was an older one that I had removed with a garage tool because I was in a hurry. My misuse of a household tool mangled the end, and it goes to show that the “right tool for the job” is more than just a term my Dad used to use with me.
You can see in the below pictures that the 3/8″ socket wrench fit with no trouble, and its a welcome addition for the times when a torque wrench is needed.
The Hammerhead Rifle Tool is available direct from the website. MSRP for the steel version is $39.50, and if you have got to have the coolest and lightest weight setup on the planet, the titanium version will set you back $119.50. I’ll stick with the steel one for myself, it fits my needs perfectly.

Our Finnish frend, Riddu, already posted this in the YouTube thread.............and I've found out they need a 1,000 unit minimum order and the unit price is USD$45.00. HOWEVER you'd likely be able to get it for somewhere nearer $25 and far less numbers than 1,000. We have a dealer in the USA negotiating..................
Sorry, I've been away.
Still, Riddu didn't include the "effects" video...

July 11th, 2010
TOPS Knives has released the Haket which stands for Hatchet and Knife Emergency Tool. The unique blade is manufactured from 1095 steel and features a hatchet blade on one and and a knife blade on the other. The blade fits into a slot on the hollow chrome-moly handle in two fashions. It can be mounted as a traditional hatchet or in spear fashion and in both cases the blade is held fast with a special bolt fixture. Additionally, the hollow handle accommodates a variety of survival items. Look for additional blades in the future. The Haket comes with a nylon sheath.

SSD Exclusive – ZERO POINT is on a TiRAID
January 17th, 2011 When the need to access or open something exists and carrying a halligan tool is either impractical or just too much and a big screwdriver just won’t get it done, what do you use?
Well, the team at Zero Point asked themselves that very question. The tool that they came up with is the first joint effort between the guys with the operational experience and Zero Point’s newly established World-Class Engineering Team.
Not one to back down from a challenge, the engineers took what began as grey matter concept and a few basic sketches turning them into a well designed, highly functional tool in less than two months. Better yet, it’s made from titanium!
Enter the TiRAID (Titanium Replaceable Assault Implement Demolition)
As the name implies, the operator will have the ability to attach different options based on the assessed target as well as his particular style. The striking heads are available in either stainless steel for increased striking momentum and a finer cutting edge OR titanium for lighter weight and absolute corrosion resistance.
Striking Heads Include: Talon, Hawk, Bludgeon, Ax, and Hammerhead

Breaching Tool
February 7th, 2011 This isn’t a hatchet. It’s not an axe. It’s a very specialized breaching tool and it’s one of the hidden gems from SHOT Show. With prototypes spanning back over two years, the Breaching Tool is a collaboration between Strider Knives and North vector. If you’re in the business, the name will be familiar.
In the photo above you can see the first variant (CH) along with the as yet unnamed current version. With numerous prototypes in between, it gives you a good idea of how the design evolved over time through hands on use and feedback.
Starting at the bottom, the hooked toe helps keep it in the hand during chopping and raking, it also serves as an index during low light conditions so the Breacher can easily determine which in direction he has the tool oriented. Next, the G10 handle is designed to maintain a firm grip even when wet. The lower portion of the front cutting surface is also sharpened. This feature was added at the request of Breachers who have to access stucco wall spaces. These are often built using chicken wire as a base and more often than not contain various types of wires spanning between the studs. It allows the Breacher to chop into the wall and rake back toward himself to rapidly reduce the wall. Finally, there are two cutting edges. Once again referring to the photo, you can see both are much longer than the initial version. The front cutting surface is similar to an axe and the rear is more of a chisel blade. Finally, the top of the tool incorporates a prybar.
Additionally, don’t let the lack of finish on the final prototype fool you. The production model will come with a protective finish.
Some have asked about a means of carrying the Breaching Tool. Consultant Bill Stojack developed a simple means that can be adapted to many carrying styles. He came up with a kydex bikini that covers both blades. It can be tethered to equipment so that pulling on the Breaching Tool with the strong hand simultaneously removes the bikini and brings it to bear.
An interesting tidbit is that generally, Strider designs are named after someone or something involved in the development process. In this case, the name William Stojack has been thrown around. However, he is generally known to friends as Bill. While the Breaching Tool hasn’t been named yet, you can imagine what digraph has been thrown around.
Available soon from Strider Knives.

The Crovel
May 5th, 2011
The Crovel, which is a portmanteau of shovel and crowbar, bares at the very least a passing resemblance to the Chinese Multifunctional Shovel in both aesthetics and functionality, but is made in the USA. The Crovel works as a shovel, crowbar, hammer, bottle and can opener, and grappling hook, among other uses. The shovel head is made from 10 gauge hardened steel while the handle is a 19 inch goose head crowbar with a 1.5 x .75 inch hammer face. The handle is also wrapped in 15 feet of 550 paracord, which offers an enhanced grip, but can also be used as a survival material. All we need now is a Youtube video of several American soldiers showing off all this tool’s features set to epic music and we’d be in business.

Fire Steel, Blanket Pin, and Awl (in-One)
July 6th, 2011
The Fire Steel, Blanket Pin, and Awl is a multi use product offered by Dave Canterbury of “Dual Survival” fame and Owner of the Pathfinder School, LLC. Inspired by a conversation with Rob Simpson of the Canteen Shop, the concept was combine a blanket pin with a fire steel. In fact, you may have seen this in use on “Dual Survival” when Dave’s partner Cody Lundin wraps himself in a buffalo cape (episode: Frozen Plains).
It is offered in two sizes, naturally referred to as Small and Large. The smaller one can be used as a belt buckle so you can always have it on you. However, it do so it is recommended that you slightly modify it by shortening the pin.
Naturally, it’s primary function is as a fire steel. But, this device allows you to take a wool (or in a pinch other type) blanket and use it as a cloak, clasping it in front. Finally, it can be used as an awl, with the loop of the steel making an excellent handle.

Artillery Pry Bar System
August 1st, 2011
The Artillery Pry Bar System is modular, allowing the user to combine handles, fulcrums, and blades to increase reach and get at some tough problems. As you can see in the video below, it works great for destruction. However, it might work well for some tactical applications. It’s made from great materials: zinc-plated tempered steel blades (durability), steel handles (durability), fiberglass handles, vinyl foam handle grip (all-weather comfort). Artillery Tools offers multiple pre-assembled kits. Their Disaster Recovery set pictured above includes about every implement of destruction you could wish for.

Multi-tool Henchmen: the Sidekick and Wingman
by The Mad Duo on September 27, 2011
Leatherman WINGMAN
Leatherman has a couple of new tools coming to stores in October, the Wingman and the Sidekick. They’re a little smaller than many of their predecessors (and in several cases, a lot less expensive). We’ve used and liked Leatherman for years, as many Kit Up! readers probably have. Honestly though, even if we hadn’t, watching Russell Crowe take a guys head off with one in Proof of Life would’ve sold us. Leatherman tools are pretty much ubiquitous, and last for a long time. At least two of our handlers still have original PSTs and a Mini-Tool they were issued many moons ago, back when the Russkies were still boogermen and former spetsnaz guys weren’t encouraged to appear on US television shows…anyway, somehow the S4 never got those back.
Though the Wingman and Sidekick look very much alike, there are a few differences:
♦Sidekick has a saw/Wingman has scissors
♦Sidekick blade is straight, Wingman is combo straight/serrated one.
♦Sidekick has a serrated blade inside, Wingman a clamshell package opener
There are a few things we particularly like about these new tools, in particular the fact that you can open the knife one-handed with the tool still closed. Both have sprung jaws, full size pliers, a removable pocket clip we would never personally use (cuz we’d lose stuff) and the traditional multitude of other tools (including a wire-stripper). There are a couple of tools we wouldn’t choose if these tools were a la carte, and it would be nice to have the in black or other subdued color (hey, as Merrill says, coyote tan is the new black) but such is life. We still really like what we see, and it’s a great price point.
If you have two minutes to spare, you can watch how a Leatherman is made.
The Wingman will MSRP at $30, the Sidekick at $40, and they offer their standard 25 year no-questions asked repair-or-replace guarantee. FYI, we’re going to try to break a new Leatherman MUT over the next few weeks. Maybe we’ll even get a chance to do a Terry Thorne on someone with it. We’ll let you know how it turns out.

AUSA – Ontario Knife
October 12th, 2011
Here are some photos of the new Weapon Tools from Ontario Knife we told you about the other day.
First, the M240 tool. You can see the claw design as which alleviates the frequent problem of hard to remove spring pins. This tool allows the operator to quickly remove a bent or defective spring pin from the weapon. It will also prevents spring pins from being bent by efficiently extracting the pin, thus eliminating undue wear and tear on the pin.
Next is the M2 .50 tool, designed to assist the operator in setting the head space and timing and disassembling and assembling the weapon. It also significantly reduces the time it takes to set the head-space and timing and facilitates the rapid disassembly and assembly of the weapon for daily preventative maintenance and critical operator functions.
Last, but not least is the tool for the Mk 19 Which is designed for clearing and break down of the weapon.

SOFEX – RMJ Tactical
November 1st, 2011
RMJ Tactical keeps striving to increase cutting power while minimizing weight and overall size. It’s a fine line to balance these requirements and these two new tomahawks are their latest models.
The Jenny Wren is a traditional name for the Wrens you see all over the South and it’s namesake is a no-nonsense tomahawk. Developed at the request of Recon Marines looking for a tomahawk with the same weight of a fixed blade knife. You can see its straight forward design and the intent here was to harken back to a simpler, more straight forward time (think WW II).
On the other hand, the Crow is a more aggressive design with an angled handle to force the brunt of blows to make contact at the top of the blade rather than the more traditional chopping style seen on many axes.

Gobbler Knuckles from AAC
Referred to as a “Gobbler Knuckle”, it’s an interesting concept piece. Combining a 1911 bushing wrench with integrated hex wrench holes (including a 3/8″ for LaRue levers and KAC scope mounts) as well as a bottle opener, the “Gobbler Knuckle” features finger holes incorporated into the design which offer a better grip when using it to remove “stuck bushings or stuck beer tops, stuck scope mounts . . . Or other “stuck stuff.”Right now it’s still just a prototype. Hopefully, AAC will put these into production.

The handles are 3D machined micarta, laced with 2mm accessory cord and laser engraved with Viking runes. RMJ plans on adding the Berserker to their product lineup, though the specs may change a bit.

Product Announcement
AR Multitasker Series 2X announced
A brass punch tool sized to work with Glock pistols
The evolution of the AR Multitasker continues with the release of the Series 2X. It’s hard to choose my favorite new feature. It’s a toss-up between the new Glock punch tool and the updated plier head.
3/32″ punch (Glock tool) attachment CNCed from non-marring Aluminum-Bronze (Note: Tools ordered from Brownells will have the dental pick, not the Glock tool)
Stronger pliers with more aggressive teeth
New self lubricating, hybrid bearing
PVD/TiCN coating for added surface hardness and corrosion resistance
MSRP $149.95
Shipping to dealers Jan 1, 2012
The new punch tool replaces the dental pick on all tools except those bought from Brownells. They’ve chosen to stick with the dental pick. Let’s hope that Multitasker makes the Glock punch available as a separate accessory. I’m sure there are a lot of folks that would like to add that tool to their AR Multitasker. I bring my AR Multitasker to the range whether I’m shooting my AR or a my Glock, so that Glock tool is now one less thing to keep track of when packing my range bag. With the addition of the Glock punch, the last thing on my AR Multitasker wishlist is a 1/2″ wrench so I can remove or install non-QD optics.
Looking at the jaws of the Series 2X, it’s easy to see how much beefier they are than the Series 2. I’d say the bearing is about 30% bigger and the jaws feature a new combination pattern. The tip is a 1/4″ of micro serrations for delicate work with a serious 3/4″ section of sawtoothing that bites like a pitbull. The tenacious grip of the new head is useful for twisting, pulling, tearing and holding, but beware of using the sawtooth section on anything you don’t want to mar. The heavy serration pattern combined with new, harder TiCN coating will leave aluminum and copper surfaces looking like a Jack the Ripper crime scene.
I know I said I had only one more thing on my Multitasker wishlist, but I forgot how badly the included case blows. I call on the folks at Multitasker to either improve the carry pouch or just ditch it and drop the price by the $0.99 it costs to include that case.

Tough TiCN coating
New aggressive jaw serrations

5.11 debuts its Mad Max Window Breaker at Shot
by Matthew Cox on January 17, 2012
You'd have to ask WHY it has so many teeth apart from the poser value? :cuckoo
5.11 Tactial has a new breaching tool that would make Mad Max drool. The Multi Break and Rake features a long steel pipe handle with a vicious, 1055 steel blade on top. The 5.11 guys showed it off at Shot Show 2012 as part of their new breaching tool line scheduled to be available this spring.
The purpose of this tool is give you extended reach; to break glass, rake it out and clean out the frame,” 5.11 officials said.
The hooked blade looks like something barbarians would carry into battle centuries ago. It has a wicked spike and jagged teeth on both sides of the blade.
Similar window breaking tools on the market feature polymer handles, which can get stuck in sharp glass. That’s why 5.11 designed its tool with hydraulic pipe steel. The weight wasn’t available, but it’s going to be somewhere between 7-10 pounds, 5.11 officials said.
